Running and I finally broke up. In hindsight it had been an unhealthy relationship, full of obsession on my part and abuse on running’s part. It took years of pain—Achilles tendinitis, shin splints, post tibia tendinitis—gouges to my pocketbook for frequent new kicks with the latest scientifically engineered soles, and sneaking around, mainly from my 9 to 5 job, so that we could be together, before I got the message that we weren’t working out.
